What is Equine Assisted Psychotherapy and how does it work?
Equine Assisted Psychotherapy (EAP) is a modality of treatment which takes place at a ranch setting, and incorporates horses into therapy sessions.
Licensed therapists work in tandem with horse experts to provide clients with a unique and very powerful therapy experience.
In EAP sessions, participants learn about themselves and others by taking part in activities with the horses, and then discussing how the activities parallel life's challenges. Participants are provided with individually designed activities in the arena to help them find solutions to problems, as well as to work through unresolved emotional issues.
EAP addresses a variety of mental health and human development needs including relationship problems, unresolved grief and loss, Post Traumatic Stress, anxiety, depression, parenting challenges etc.
Because of its intensity and effectiveness, it is considered a short-term, or "Brief" approach.
Research from around the globe provides concrete evidence that EAP has a powerfully positive impact on individuals, youth, famlies, and groups.
